Dayton 2025 Hamvention SOTA Meetup

Have a good - and above all - safe, trip Pat.

and the same wish to all travelling to Hamvention, a safe trip - better an hour late than never to arrive!!

I just realized my ability to engage with everyone at the informal gathering will be constrained, as I am giving a SOTA presentation at Ham Radio 2.0 in the Volta Building at 2 pm. So just enough time to quickly say hi to all gathered.

Of course, you all are welcome to attend my presentation ;-). The last part will include some “blue sky” prognostications for the future. As a teaser, I will just say that folks may be interested in what I suggest on the last slide in particular…

73 and safe travels to all, Paula k9ir

I plan to be there. Originally a meetup on Saturday afternoon was planned. Is that still in the works, or will we all just meet at the SOTA Forum on Saturday morning at 9:30 am?

So now we have two SOTA events in the forums, the 0930 forum and the presentation in the Ham Radio 2.0 Forum. Cool!

That’s great Paula. Wish I could be there. This is a working weekend for me unfortunately.

Will your presentation slides be available after Hamvention for us non attendees to enjoy?

I will verify with Ward Silver (who has organized the HR 2.0 agenda), but I see no reason to not share the slides afterward. Is there a location on the SOTA website appropriate for that?

As noted earlier, Saturday morning is the SOTA forum, moderated by KR7RK. The Hamvention forums are a great venue and tend to draw big audiences, so we should see some greater interest in SOTA as a result. I hope to see everyone there.

Even nicer, all 3 activities are at different times on Saturday, so no conflicts!

We were lucky the Hamvention wasn’t two weeks later That whole area got hit by Tornadoes just before midnight last night:

Lets hope no more that the so far declared one death occurred.

Looks like Hara is not feeling too well. It could be the end of it? Drone footage of whats left.

I hope Keith doesn’t mind - I renamed his thread to “Dayton 2025 Hamvention SOTA Meetup”. (The title read 2019 before)

A few SOTAists from Northern UK are considering going to the Dayton Hamvention which is held in 2025 from May 16-18th in Xenia, OHIO State.

Nothing definite yet, its just something we are considering, but I thought I would just spread the word that a visit, including a few SOTA Activations is being considered.

Friends and I have decided that a visit to Dayton in 2025 is not feasible owing to the cost of travel etc. Instead some of us are to travel to Friedrichshafen Ham Radio 2025. I am flying to Memmingen, hiring a car and will be staying in Tettnang once again with a friend who is not into SOTA (YET). However he will observing me on one or two SOTA Activations during the 4 days we are in Germany on summits near to FN, or in the Allgau as he has an intermediate licence. Unless of course he takes the Advanced Test before we go in June and passes, in which case he could activate.

I have meet ups at the flagpole thats in the center of the food area and a chance to sit if spots are free but its easy to find and need be can move over to the bleachers in the grandstand out by the track

I will have a table so we can meet up there but the center area near the food and beer trucks is a good spot

I’ll be attending Dayton this year.
Come hear the Spurious Emissions on Friday night. I’m one of the guitarists.
9:30 PM-11:00 PM – Spurious Emissions Band performing live at the Hope Hotel Ballroom

Happy to connect with any SOTA folks while I’m there.

Hoping to see many old and new friends this weekend! Just a reminder:

TOMORROW (Fri 5/16) - SOTA FORUM 12:15 - 1:50pm
NJ7V and myself KR7RK will lead the SOTA forum, which will be in ROOM #1 - this is a room “upgrade” as Room #1 can hold up to 500 people! Let’s see if we can fill it up! We will both give a short presentation and will finish up with an audience participation session. Bring your questions, QSL cards, gear to show off, etc.

SATURDAY (5/17) - Annual informal meetup - Let’s try to meet at 1:30pm on Saturday, May 17th, in the paved area between Buildings 2 and 3. If the weather is good, we can gather on the bleachers for eyeball QSO’s and a fun group photo like we’ve done the past several years. Or if it’s raining, we can meet just inside the doors of Building 2.

See you there!
