Database Server Update

We’ve had a few problem over recent weeks with our server that hosts the database, these are down primarily to the shared server being heavily loaded. As a result our hosting company is moving us to a shiny new server. This should result in much improved performance.

That’s the good news. The less good news is there may be some interruptions in service. Or may be not. We’re hoping for a clean switch that will not be noticeable by you, the user. But we may need to take the database offline so we can ensure the state on the new server is consistent with the old.

Of course things can and do often fail to go to plan. If you cannot log in, or there is no service at all, do not worry. We’ll be well aware of this and will be trying to do something.

When I uploaded my last activation late evening yesterday database was noticeable faster in response than all time before. Actions causing a short delay before are now executed instantly.
Seems the move to the new server was smoothly. I did not notice any outage.

Thanks for the work in the background.

It will be even faster when we start using it!

I think some shared hosts have been moved already. We’re still on the old iron.

Another peculiarity I have noticed recently is that, when I am entering chaser log entries manually one by one, it often asks me to enter my login details again between entries for no apparent reason. Very odd …

It’s a pain Walt. It did it to me several times uploading logs tonight. It’s to do with the sever being overloaded. It should be better when we move to the new one.
