Database logging problem

This problem has not been listed yet since the change to the new server but I’m having a problem getting the Database screen to come up for logging. I keep getting the IIS screen instead of the Database screen.

I’m running Vista and IE9 and was not having a problem prior to the changeover. Anyone else having this problem or have a solution?

Thanks,
Gary A. - W0MNA

Hi Andy;

I still have the same problem as Gary but using Chrome, I ran IPCONFIG/flushdns from the command prompt and got the correct response but still get the same result.

The solution I am using that is still working is to manually open a new tab and use the URL http://sotadata.org.uk/, note not the www version used by the link in Sotawatch.

Thanks Andy for this work around mentioned in an earlier post, if the DNS cache flush does not work for you Gary, try the above.

Andy,

Tried this procedure. Shut down the computer and restarted but still have the same problem.

From a command prompt run this:

nslookup sotadata.org.uk

There will be some out and somewhere it should say

Name: sotadata.org.uk
Address: 94.76.234.8

Also try:

nslookup www.sotadata.org.uk

and

nslookup database.sotadata.org.uk

If none of the return that address then your ISP’s DNS has not yet updated or you have some local DNS values cached.

I use OpenDNS from home, my home router uses this in preference to the DNS my ISP offers. Today at 27hrs after the update if I told my Linux computer to use OpenDNS directly I got the correct information. If I went through my own router, which was using OpenDNS, I got the old information. My router was caching the information. It took 28hrs after the update before it started working. It was still wrong when I used my mobile broadband earlier this evening.

The DNS is working and up to date. Any problems will be due to programs caching stuff they really shouldn’t. So IE9 is the culprit… which should be no suprise to anyone.

“Internet Explorer 9 includes three optimizations for improved DNS performance; all of these optimizations are based on the fact that multiple DNS requests may be issued in parallel.”

Which is patently bloody stupid because the computer’s OS knows the right answer but Microsoft’s code monkeys have put in something that makes it appear “faster and betterer” than other browsers and this is not working now.

You need to clear these cached values but I don’t know how, I wouldn’t touch IE9 with a 10ft pole. Google for “ie9 dns clear” and see what comes up.

I am happy to supply you with a 33ft pole at a very reasonable price if that would help.

ROTFL! Thank you for starting my day with a smile Richard.

I shall now return to another day at the coal face where I’ll be banging my head against the brick wall which is USB3 driver code.

Ken, try this:

Internet Explorer 8 or 9

1 Open Internet Explorer.
2 Click Tools (the gear) on the far right side of the menu bar.
3 Select Internet Options
4 Click the General tab.
5 Click Delete under the Browsing History section.
6 Check the box next to Temporary Internet Files.
7 Uncheck all other boxes (this is important)
8 Click Delete and then click OK.
9 Close and reopen the browser.

That should get you going.

Hi Andy;

Unfortunately I am using Google Chrome.

As I have a solution to the problem at the moment, I won’t worry you further as I am sure you are heartily fed up with the topic.

Andy, what do I need to download under Apple IOS 7.0 to become access to the Database? Selecting Database is followed by a small sreen “IIS7” (Internet information services). I wonder which of the offered options I should download?
Could you give a step by step procedure?
BTW, the DB access under IOS 6.1.3 on another iPAD functions as it should.

Ken, sorry, yes it’s Gary who has IE9.

So here is a nice summary for several browsers.

Hi Andy;

I googled flush chrome dns and found the answer and in doing so found another mystery.

Clicking the “database” link from Sotawatch still brings up the server host screen.
Manaully entering the same url results in the www url working correctly ???

Cheers Ken

In reply to G3XQE:

I have a similar problem when using IOS 7 on my iPad I can only see the IIS7 screen when I tap the database unless I manually input sotadata.org.uk (without the www) which is not really much of a problem but worth pointing out.

On my phone running IOS 6 and on my PC running XP and explorer no problems at all

I am sure it will all be ok soon.

I have also noticed that any new summit activity is not showing up when you click on a summit from the spot list since the change over but it is still showing up on the chaser uniques table.

Thanks for all the behind the scenes work from the MT

I tried that yesterday but it didn’t work.

Just done it again and it’s fine now, working on all my devices

I’ve deleted some funny and OT comments (I think I deleted one of my own) from this thread simply because I want to try to keep this sort-of on topic. I know I am terrible for topic drivel, so I hope you will indulge me this bit of censorship.

Comments noted from Walt, Rob and others.

Still have the problem here, I have discovered that if you get the web server web site banner then if you insert “/default.aspx” in front off the url in the address bar then hit carriage return then the database screen appears.
