Gutted! I got you today in IE-0135 at 11:32z and struggled to copy because the QSB was so bad. When I finally got you, I know (or rather I hope) you copied me as I got the R R R but then you disappeared in to the ether! 
I had you in my logbook too but the RST your side never reached me. Then the WX changed and I had to pack up very quickly before my radio gear got destroyed.
Next time! I’m off work this week so lots of radio ahead hopefully. I will add you to my Ham Alert app.
So close! Sorry we couldn’t complete the QSO.

From 27 April to 10 May 2026, I operated under the call sign CT8/HB9BIN/p 775 QSOs from the island of San Miguel in the Azores (IOTA EU-003). The rig was a KX2 with 10 watts. The antennas were EFHW with a wire length of around 20 metres and a J-pole for 20 metre band, which unfortunately broke. A GFK pole and a keyer broke too.
Due to the frequent changes in weather and the wind, operating was very challenging. Consequently, 88.4% of the contacts were made in CW and only 11.6% in SSB. Because of the 2-hour time difference between Europe and CU2, many hunters were no longer at their stations by early evening. The 30-metre band does not open in the Azores until 18:30 GMT.
Here is a summary:
• Made 775 QSOs from 30 to 15 metres
• Activated 8 summits: 2 are drive-ups and 2 are off-road through the forest. As I caught a cold here, I did not activate the highest mountain, CU/SM-001.
• Activated 12 CUFFs WWFF Parks
• Activated 16 POTA parks
• Activated 34 DXCCs
• All QSOs have been uploaded to the LotW, SOTA, WWFF and POTA databases.
A big thank you to all the chasers, some of whom managed to pick up my weak signals. A big thank you to my lovely wife Franziska for coming along, who sometimes had to wait for me for hours in the hire car. The beautiful natural landscape, with its volcanoes, crater lakes and rugged coastline, makes San Miguel well worth a visit.
Vom 27. April bis zum 10. Mai 2026 arbeitete ich mit dem Rufzeichen, CT8/HB9BIN/p 775 QSOs von der Insel San Miguel auf den Azoren (IOTA EU-003) Das Funkgerät war ein KX2 mit 10 Watt. Die Antennen waren ein EFHW mit rund 20 Meter Drahtlänge und ein J-Pole für 20 M, welcher leider defekt ging.
Wegen den häufigen Wetterwechseln und den starken Winden war der Funkbetrieb sehr herausfordernd. Daher wurden 88.4 % der Verbindungen in CW und nur 11.6 % in SSB getätigt. Wegen der Zeitverschiebung um 2 Stunden, waren viele Jäger am frühen Abend leider nicht mehr an der Station. Das 30 Metter Band öffnet sich auf den Azoren erst ab 18:30 GMT.
Hier eine Zusammenstellung der wichtigsten Daten:
· 775 QSOs von 30 bis 15 Meter
· Aktivierung von 8 Summits: 2 sind Drive ups und 2 weglos durch den Wald. Weil ich hier eine Erkältung aufgelesen habe, habe ich den höchsten Berg CU/SM-001 nicht aktiviert.
· 12 CUFFs WWFF Parks
· 16 POTA Parks
· 34 DXCCs
· Alle QSOs sind auf den Datenbanken LotW, SOTA, WWFF und POTA hochgeladen.
