Cima Presena, I/TN-304. September 8th, 2014.
Second SOTA activation; this one was tough. Cima Presena is a real alpine summit some 3070 m high, with a real glacier to cross from bottom to top. Luckily no open crevasses and good weather in the morning. Operating from the top was very good: great landscape and good propagation through Europe both on 20 m (15 QSOs) and on 40 m (19 QSOs). Not bad for a Monday morning …!
Following some pictures, hope you enjoy them.
Starting point: Cima Presena is the elevation on the left of the glacier.
Beginning of the glacier: the ice is shielded by some protective geotessil foils. Old skilift on the way to be dismantled.
Some good tools: you really need them to climb up the glacier. In the morning the ice is hard as rock.
The glacier is rather steep at times
The summit and a SOTA activator …
Looking back from the top: Conca Presena
The shack
Other glaciers from the top: Presanella, Lobbia, Mandrone
Bad weather approaching on the way down
Many thanks to all my chasers, especially to HB9AFI/P for the S2S. Also thanks to F/VK2IO/P even though I am not sure about the S2S because I did not catch the reference.
All in all great fun.
