21:00 UTC update
Thank you for all the lovely comments. Although it was cold on the summit thankfully the wind stayed below about 5 knots so I was able, with ample layers, three pairs of gloves and a hot drink, to stay warm for the duration. It was very special to see the sunrise and I absolutely love the Lake District views when there is snow on the tops. There were a few people who had ventured out around the same time and then a steady trickle throughout the activation.

The FT-817 barefoot continues to impress with the solid 5w output doing very well. It was lovely to exchange seasons greetings to so many of my amateur radio friends. Of special mention is @EA2DT who has been my most consistent chaser and managed to make the contact on 80m after having just missed each other on 40m (I heard him calling just after I’d reclipped the SOTABEAMs quad-band dipole for 80m and he had gone by the time I ran around setting it back to 40m), thank you Manuel for the dedicated chasing.

I’ve added some comments below the photos explaining the aspect. On a good day you can see Blackpool Tower but there haven’t been too many days where I am able to make out the Welsh Mountains behind however. My last contact was fittingly with Santa’s Own Amateur Radio Station OH9SCL who has been doing a splendid job over the past few days when I have got contacts in various locations and it was great to get a 59 with my /QRP setup.

Santa was good to me this year, he bought me a Mountain Topper MTR3B and a Digimaster MiniProSC so hopefully I will be expanding the communication modes available from the fell tops.

Mountain Topper MTR3B

Merry Christmas to all and a safe, healthy 2021 please!

Mark.

Merry Christmas Mark!

We visited Ambleside yesterday, had lunch in the Apple Pie Cafe and went to a few shops. For once the town was nice and quiet

The hills looked stunning, how I longed to be up in them playing SOTA!

Best wishes for 2021.

Lovely photos Mark but I still think you’re mad for going out in that temperature.
Thanks for the contact mate and have a good one.

Heard you briefly on 80m SSB but by the time I force fed my 80m antenna via an atu to work that high in the band you were gone :frowning: QMX and catch you in the New year

Nice photos. Thanks for the 40m contact albeit only 7 miles away! It was cold in my unheated outside shack but not as cold as on Gummers How. 73 Andy

You’re in the SWL log Mark! I received a weak but readable signal from you on 40m SSB but couldn’t get through.

Looks like you had a great activation, as indeed did I. Merry Christmas!
