Chaser request

Hi Russ, it was good to work you today from Gyrn Moelfre GW/MW-049. I have found this reflector really useful for reading other people’s experiences, and providing links to information, as in the thread above.

It was definitely duck down weather today - as in jacket, not red nose fancy dress :o). The cold wind felt like sandpaper on any exposed skin, and though I had plenty of clothing, I was happy enough to call it a day after 10 minutes on the top, and 10 contacts. I chose the hill for today knowing that the track up was on the South West side, and the wind was coming from NE, so I expected it to be a pleasant walk up and down, which indeed it was. I could have coped if the wind had changed, though, and it always can!

Earlier in the day I activated Rhialgwm GW/NW-046. First time for me, but I studied the map and read someone else’s notes, and saw that much of the route up was through forrest, providing shelter, and the final walk to the top would have the wind generally on my back. I spent an hour on the top activating 2m and 30m. I had some snow fall, but less wind than on Gyrn Moelfre…

I can confirm that it is addictive :o)

Good luck with the hill walking, you might find you get hooked and enjoy the hills as much as the radio, if not more!

My word Gerald some spectacular views from Snowdon…I must admit looking at the other batch of photos you have a fantastic xyl, to stand and hold the antenna on the summit for hours at a time…wow.

Thanks for the response and great to have worked you previously.

Best Regards

Thankyou Liz.

Heard you on the radio many times before, but unable to connect with you to date…look forward to working you soon from one of your summits…thankyou for the link.

Not looked at the “Summits” yet

Aha! So in fact the chances are that most of the things you asked about or made suggestions about are already there for you.

Click that link and enjoy.

Hi Russ,

Sorry I’ve not been able to work you from a summit yet. Hopefully as the weather improves (and my fitness!) I will be back up on some of the higher fells and some futher south such as Black Combe so that we can finally get there.

As time and daylight improves I will have time to use 4m fm a bit more too if you have this facility.

Hope to talk to you soon

Liz

Yes likewise Adrian…I was at my colleagues house today , he was monitoring s20 so when you called cq I told him this would be a good time for him to make a brew whilst I obtained the contact…so again thanks for the points and great working you previously…must admit I have never experienced wind on a summit ( that doesnt sound right somehow )…that actually sounds painful…glad you had a safe descent…oh thats the bit that scares me, it being addictive :o)

Thats ironic…just making myself a homebrew 4 metre di-pole as we speak.

She’s one in a million. Although she, like me, likes being out in the hills so it’s usually no chore to sit on a summit for her.

She finished her round of all the Munros (282 Scottish mountains over 3000 feet high) in 2011, so she’s no stranger to the high mountains.

Just need to get her interested in amateur radio now…
