Thanks for the reminder Barry to stay home coax unplugged watching the grass grow out my shack window.
Contests these days are so automated what’s the point pushing F keys all day bring back the pencil I say.

I bet 17 and 30 will be busy with the contest refugees!

At least we can always find some refuge at WARC bands… :-/

Big CW contests do tend to take full advantage of the “all modes” bits in the band plans, and the WARC bands do get busy with folk escaping the contests, but I guess not everyone has access to them?

I think (hope) the WARC bands will be fine!
I’ll be on 17M Sunday.

I like that, Mikel!

I suppose its too much to hope that some of the rabid brass pounders might pack a mike and come and enjoy hearing the voices of their fellow SOTA enthusiasts further up the bands!

Probably just as unlikely as some of the no-code people trying make a basic CW QSO Brian. SOTA CW QSOs are just about as basic as they get, so a perfect place for people to give it a go.
I’ll certainly be doing both CW and SSB from my GI activations these next few days. On 12m that is! If I need to resort to other bands, it will be most likely CW only, unless I get the SSB only urge as recently and unexpectedly happened on GW/SW-031.

In reply to M1EYP:
Even if I took my courage in both hands and hazarded my slow and shaky CW, Tom, I’m unlikely to hear you from GI on 12 metres in anything but freak SS!
Have a good time in the “Black North!”

I think you’ll find that CW QSOs are OK anywhere on on the HF Bands according to the bandplan with the exception of the IBP/beacon sections.

Sadly, I don’t possess a radio that will do voice, or 12m come to that. I have often considered using my kx1 and working cross mode to work chasers who use ssb. They’d need to copy my cw though, I can send slowly. Thought it might be interesting.
If I had portable ssb I’d use it, I sold the 817 (yes I regret it) in favour of a cw only rig that was lighter and more frugal with electrons. Since then I’ve built many kits, only cw though.
