…for being out of the office on a hill. Slightly OT but it might prompt some interesting discussion.
I have been trying to fix up a meeting with a company we are working with. They are based in a beautiful town called Brixen nestling in a valley in the South Tirol, Northern Italy (just across the border from Austria).
I was expecting an update on the meeting schedule on Monday but I received the following today:
“Hello Marc, Sorry for my delayed response. On Monday I was involved in a mountain rescue activity…”
A very reasonable excuse I think
Have any of you come up with a better/more creative reason to be out and about on a hill (maybe doing SOTA) when you should be at work or doing something else?
BTW I’ll mention SOTA to my contact although I don’t think he is licensed. In any case there is no association in Italy yet so he would have to pop across the border to OE if he was.
The best reason for being out of the office on a hill is that it improves your health. Do we need any other reason? Proven case - lowered blood pressure, reduced weight, feeling of well-being (ask Andy FMF about his endorphins)… the list goes on and on.
When time allows I “escape” up one of the local ripples to do a bit of chasing, primarily on 2m SSB. When John BVE used to operate the band, I was regularly going out to make contact. Unfortunately of late my opportunities have been few and far between and the downside is that I have to work late to compensate, but that’s a minor issue.
I assume a trip into OE would be all expenses paid…
Good points on the benefits, agree 100%… although I was really looking for creative “excuses” to get out of the office. Maybe that would have been a better title. Any ideas?
Well, it is absolutely chucking it down here in Stoke as I look out of the Maths Dept office window. I’d much rather be here than out there, thank you very much.
Saying that it looks quite nice now… I guess finishing work every day at 3 o’clock is a pretty good reason to get out of the office and onto a hilltop, wouldn’t you say?
It is, no doubt about it. Well not quite. I’ve got a good friend here in Macclesfield who is self-employed, and therefore gets out on the hills or playing SOTA even more often than I do!
