Awards

We must express our appreciation for the fine service we have just experienced from our Awards Manager, Barry GM4TOE. All my previous claims were to John G3WGV and Roger MW0IDX when they respectively held the position, so there has been quite a gap. In the meantime, I have racked up eligibility for a fair few awards, especially with doing all three sections - chaser / activator / SWL - as both points and uniques! Further to this, we had never got round to claiming any of Jimmy’s awards yet, so there was plenty for Barry to do.

On Tuesday, all our certificates arrived, looking splendid with high quality printing, our names spelled correctly (you would be amazed at how many people can’t spell ‘Read’ when it is a surname!) and even meeting our ‘special request’ of having our SWL numbers (G-20843 / G-20848) rather than our callsigns printed on the SWL awards.

“But where’s the trophies?” asked Jimmy. “Don’t worry” I replied, “They will take longer to prepare, and longer in the mail, so they’ll probably be a week or two yet”. They arrived the next day (yesterday), and I have to say they are a very nice piece of work. Even Marianne was impressed, albeit not sufficiently to invite us to have them take pride of place along the mantelpiece!

As Barry was probably all too well aware, all awards have been quality assured by Jimmy for accuracy of printed and engraved callsigns and dates, and the four trophies and goodness-knows-how-many certificates are all spot on!

Excellent. Thank you Barry.

In reply to M1EYP:
Tom, Jimmy,

Many thanks for the kind words,

I have to admit my guilt and discovered that Tom is most unaccommodating on the matter and refused to change his name by deed poll!!!

…seems I underestimated my beloved XYL. I returned home from work the other day to find that all four ice block trophies were out of their boxes and in prime positions in the display cabinet in the lounge.

Now that is really some achievement Barry - well done!
