Association updates 1st March 2023

Here are the summits updates for this month. As I write Andy has most of these done, but with a few to follow tomorrow (1st March).

Italy

Two renamed summits.

I/PM-259 becomes Soperga.
I/LO-177 becomes Resegone

France

Position correction:

F/CR-127, Montagne de Bluye

EA7

One renamed summit:

EA7/GR-040 becomes Calar de Tejoletos

W0I

AM / RM is now Ward, WC0Y. Thanks for taking this on. ARM now available.

VK6 Western Australia

Many thanks to John, VK6NU, and his team – Ron VK3AFW and Peter VK3PF.
I’ve retired 13 of the old summits, but many of these have higher replacements amongst the 221 new summits. The new summits are spread around all regions, but first here’s a map of the new ones (green) in the south west.

W7O Oregon

Oregon has an update from Lists of John. Thanks to Etienne, K7ATN.
The update includes 73 new summits, amongst which are replacements for some of the 25 retirements. Note that W7O/CE-289 is losing its winter bonus. This was due to a metres to/from feet rounding error issue.
Again here’s a map. The new ones are quite evenly spread.

Very bummed that the Awbrey Butte (W7O/CE-213), the Metro Bend summit, got deactivated
Can we get Pilot Butte as a replacement?

Hi Tim - Yeah, Pilot Butte right in Bend would be a great spot - but it’s only 468’ prominence. Pilot Butte - 4,138' Oregon.

Great effort.

It’s been a long slow haul to get the new summits to you. I’ll have a look at the changes you wrought and compare to our submissions. Always good to learn.

Initially the review was to find new peaks near towns to encourage more VK6 activations. But it grew into a whole of State activity. Peter VK3PF was particularly helpful.

John VK6NU needs more VK6 support. My VK6 relatives have died so less pressure to visit and I’m older every day. It would be great if an active and interested person could be identified.

I have a selection of daft/silly/stupid pictures that I rotate through. The current one is of me from work in early 1984. I still have the Casio Programmers calculator (it was a cheap Hexadecimal calculator as I couldn’t afford an HP-16C) The terminal is a Televideo 925 or C.Itoh CIT-101.
