Festivious tidings and yule-esque log-themed greetings to all!

I have been busy working away in any spare minute I have (outside of work, family, ultramarathon training etc) to build and finish the much promised (and no-one asked for or cares about anyway, but still…
) successor to the original Adiemod, as dreamt up by @G4AZS who’s on-board rocker switch helped me immensely when I was trying to work out how to better operate CW on the legendary Yaesu FT-290R.
I ended up making a ‘Stand By’ switch of my own and dubbed it the ‘Adiemod’ as a nod of appreciation to the main man (who also unknowingly got me to buy not one but two MML linear amplifiers!).
Then one afternoon I randomly had a light bulb moment to create something so utterly over the top, so stupid and unnecessary. It was dubbed the Adiemod Turbo 6000, and to step up the trim level, I went further to dub it the Executive Edition Ghia, after the great Italian car trimmers.
This project started off as a quick 3D print one afternoon and quickly spiralled (massively) out of control. I’ve since learned about wood craft, sanding, staining and finishing, electronics wiring, polishing and waxing and so much more.
With the project drawing to a close, I have the aesthetics and most of the wiring almost buttoned up. I am just waiting on some more parts and testing to hopefully get the final wiring done with the hopes of finishing it by the end of the year.
In case I don’t reach that goal (as the last bit is proving a right pain to finish off and is testing my electronics skill, or lack of, to the hilt), I figured to share a little ‘amuse bouche’ of what to expect.
The time and hours of crafting and learning and research (not to mention the money
) I’ve sunk in to this has been off the charts.
I am not a craft worker, a wood specialist or electronics genius. I haven’t a clue what I am doing and have done all of this as I have gone along, trying to learn what to do to make things work.
I just had an idea in my head to make something ridiculous for a radio I’ve grown to love very dearly and so decided to make the picture in my head become a reality.
Well, almost. I just need to finish the last bits now.
I hope when it is done that folks enjoy it. Here’s some teaser-style aesthetics to begin with. And no, it isn’t anywhere close to what you probably think it is going to be! ![]()
Here’s to the FT-290R and it’s par excellence créme de la mènthe legend status, and to @G4AZS for unknowingly inspiring me to do something so off the wall that when this thing is finally finished, I never want to see it again! ![]()
