Taping things to ancient monuments is almost certainly illegal - and
not very environmentally friendly either. I seem to remember you
suggesting that duct tape was not such a good idea a few weeks ago
when you recalled the delights of having a sticky ball of tape in your
pocket afterwards!

But at least the tape was in my pocket and not joining the sad decorations of cans, bottles and orange peel that people leave on so many summits!
Other than the option of adding to the litter I see no chance of environmental damage. The tape sticks to the pole, it fits snugly but does not stick to weathered rock with its verneer of lichen and moss, no visible residue is left so it can do no more harm than the bungees used by some other people. Of course, there is the objection that I was misusing a religious artifact, in using a once revered phallic symbol to support a roach pole! As it happened, on my next visit I found the cap missing on the trig point so misused that instead, although that meant teetering about on a particularly nasty clitter.
Thanks for the advice [so far :)]
Found a few very helpful pics on John’s G4BVE’s Flickr albums.
Very neat and a lot lighter than the thing I have started in my garage…
Off to Nantwich rally on Sunday to hopefully buy myself a few little bits and pieces.
I’ll let you know how I get on…
I hope to meet you at Nantwich rally. Me and my Dad M1EYP are running a SOTA stand there in the middle of the main hall. Feel free to come and meet us at the SOTA stand.

I will look forward to saying hello to you and your Dad.
Had’nt realised that SOTA would be having a stand there.
I’ll come and pinch everything that is not nailed down!! Ha Ha
Nantwich show is on this Sunday (21st) starting at 10:30 and the entrance fee is a very respectible £3 apparently. I wonder if they give a receipt
