Activated W6/CT-022 Sunset Peak

Hello everybody,

I’ve activated W6/CT-022 Sunset Peak on October 21, 2023. Sunset Peak, Angeles National Forest. Hiking to the summit is about 7.5 miles round trip mostly in the shade. Lots of fling bugs buzzing around your head, bring net to cover your help or you’ll be eating some bugs. Easy trail and dog friendly and next time I’ll bring my dog.

I had to look around for the summit marker but I found it by the corrugated sheet metal laying on the ground.

Plenty of parking off the road but don’t park within the mining turn off, you’ll get towed. Look for the gated fire road. That’s the start of the trail. You’ll need to purchase an Angeles Forest Adventure pass to park.

Great views of Los Angeles and the Angeles National Forest. Sorry, I didn’t get the view of Los Angeles.

I’ve made 4 contacts but I wish to make more but I think I got to the summit too early for contacts. :frowning:

Thanks for reading my post.

Jeff, be sure to post this on Log In. North American SOTA folks check there more often than here, which is more centered on Europe & Oceania.

Congrats on the activation, and thanks for the heads up on the fly situation.

Lots of opportunities to activate in the San Gabriels and the LA Basin.

There is a local SOTA group that is very supportive that has a monthly zoom meeting.

10m HF is quite fruitful at present and you have the right to operate SSB on it.
