A Chinese FT817 replacement?

I wonder how this will square up to the FT-817?

At under £200 it may have potential as a SOTA rig although the receive current looks way too high to me.
I suppose it’s only a matter of time before the market is flooded with these type of clones.
I see they’re already working on the MKII version.

(No commercial interest. Other manufacturers are also available.)

It looks interesting, though it isn’t pretty, but I doubt that it would be under £200 in rip-off GB! If it can be opened up to include the WARC bands and 5 megs it is worth considering. The standby current is 0.5 watts, similar to the 817.

In kit form for $289. So that’s £192. Plus VAT at 20% = £231. Plus shipping. So before any mark up it’s already over £200.

But going on past experience of Chinese imports, it will be labelled as “Toy” value $10, and you’ll not pay a penny more than the $289!

YMMV but that is my experience!

Don’t forget customs will take their cut, then you will get a handling charge from the people delivering it - my son imports these daft fighting machine models so I know how it goes!

No duty on radios. Only VAT. Plus £8.00 to the PO for collecting the VAT. You can arrange to have the VAT paid at source then the PO don’t charge £8.00.
