50 MHz SOTA activation

It is rare to make SOTA activation on 6 Meter. It is even more rare if it is rare grid. Please make an attempt to make contact with Lance, W7GJ this Saturday, May 16. This is his activation plan: I am planning on heading out on Saturday on a hike to activate two peaks down the
Bitterroot Valley on SOTA (Summits on the Air). Both are in DN25, and I will be
taking the laptop with me so I can operate on FT8 mode. Will be trying 6m as well as
HF with my KX3. Peaks are W7M/RC-132 and W7M/RC-138.

Although neither are major 6m grid activation efforts, if the band opens up I may be
lucky enough to make some QRP contacts on 6m from W7M/RC-132. I am planning to take
the FT857 and a whip with me in the vehicle so I can activate W7M/RC-138 with 10 dB
more power if the band is open by the time we get to that one.

Please watch for me on Saturday with a weak signal from reasonably rare grid DN25!
Fingers crossed for some propagation!

GL and VY 73, Lance

How did it go? I’ve been thinking about using my Yaesu VX-7r on 6m “because I can”.

50 MHz SOTA activation went well. This is Lance’s report: “I
never expected to do so well with 10w and a wire antenna on a SOTA activation!
Apparently I got up there and set up just in time to catch the end of the 6m opening.
I worked 16 stations on 6m using FT8, and the logs are already uploaded to LOTW.”

Awesome. I’m making my attempt today at w4v/sh-030.
