1st July 2020 Association Uploads

This month we can announce several new associations and various updates.

LY Latvia and YL Lithuania

I didn’t get any responses to my call for volunteers for these associations, so we’re proceeding without. When anybody activates any of the YL or LY summits please do leave some notes on the summit page. And of course local volunteers to assume the AM roles would still be welcomed heartily.

A6 United Arab Emirates

This is our first association in the region.
Please take careful note of any comments on the summits pages and contact Mohammed, A61CK, who is the AM. For sure there will be access restrictions to some summits. A6 does not participate in CEPT reciprocal licensing, so be careful to make prior arrangements. A big welcome to Mohammed!

EA2 Update

It’s taken several years, but this completes the thorough re-analysis of all EA associations, based on the ign.es LIDAR-derived 5-m gridded DEM data. We have 280 new summits, 6 retirements and 3 re-activations. One of these (EA2/TE-012) replaces an EA5 ref (EA5/CS-004).

So from now on, if you think you found a missing EA summit or one that should be de-listed, you’re probably wrong. Of course making a claim like that is sure to invite an egging.
But please at least check any queries against the ign.es mapping first, and bear in mind that a significant number of the Spanish triangulation pillars are on bases (or buildings) that raise them above the land surface.

Many thanks to Guru, EA2IF, for his great help with the update, in particular naming all those new summits!

ZS South Africa

We corrected a summit accidentally not made current last month, tweaked some more positions and added more names.

In addition to Simon’s updates, we also have a new Association in the Asia-Pacific region:

YBJ - Indonesia - Java.

This association is the first step in getting all of Indonesia into SOTA, potentially 20,000+ summits. In the first instance, we’ve started with Java, the main island, and add here 589 summits in 5 regions. Many thanks to our local AM Mawan Darmawan YC1ME.

We’ve also made an small update to YU and updated the name of an LA summit, details to follow

As usual, please check the database or summits site that your summit is still valid and where you expect it to be before venturing out to activate it.
