Z35M activation of Z3/WM-046

In reply to DC7CCC:
Hi Mario,
I hope to contact you on my next activations.
On my last activation I made 11 contacts with DL stations, including one s2s.

                                          73 Vlado, Z35M

17 th. activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046 on 07.02 2010

A total of 66 QSOs on 40 and 30m including 2 s2s with S57X/p and F6HBI/p.

18-th activation of Krstovar - 1066 m, Z3/WM-046

A total of 39 QSOs on 7Mc and 10 Mc running max 3 W into inv-vee dipole @ 5 m.
The radio was K1 powered by small 345 gr. 12V/0,8 Ah battery (gives aprox. 50 min operating time for CQ-ing and making short SOTA QSOs with max output of 3 W on low temperature).
Also was calling CQ for 15 min. around 14.058 Mc with output of 2 W, but without any reply.
Not bad performance for station setup with weight less than 1500 gr + 500 gr fishing pole.

19-th activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046:

A total of 84 CW QSOs were made on 7,10 and 14 Mc using max 5-7 W and Inv-Vee Dipole at 5 m (my second best QSO total from activation).
The QSO totals were not higher when used up to 50 W into the same antenna setup (than using the straight key).
The efficiency of CW QRP is proven once again.

20-th activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046:

A total of 73 CW QSOs were made on 7 and 10 Mc using max 5-7 W and
Inv-Vee Dipole at 5 m.
The weather was sunshine with spring temperature of 17 C.

  1. activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046 on 28.02 2010:

A total of 111 CW QSOs were made on 7, 10, 14 and 21 Mc for my second best QSO total (after 257 QSOs record made from the same summit last year). After finishing the contacts with chasers I joined UBA (52 QSOs) and HSC (11 QSOs) Contest.
The K1 was used running max 5-7 W (only 1,7 W on 21 Mc) and Inv-Vee Dipole at 5 m.
The WX was cloudy with temperatures above zero.

                                                    Vlado, Z35M

Only 111 Vlado? You are slacking this year!

Good stuff. How many hours were you QRV?

Tom M1EYP

In reply to M1EYP:

The first QSO was loged at 08.09 UTC and the last one 10.56 UTC.
I had a 45 min. brake for a telephone call and to change the antenna links.
The active operation lasted 2 hours and 15 min. (an average of 50 QSOs/hour for QRP portable station - disappointing result - hi).

                                          Vlado, Z35M

Wow. Very inspiring. I will try to break 100 QSOs on one of my activations this year.

Tom M1EYP

Indeed Vlado, I had already taken note of this particular tactic.

Similarly most of my best QSO totals on activations have been while participating in VHF activity or Backpackers contests, as well as being on the SOTA summit.

Hi Vlado

I’m not sure if you are entering QSO’s individually on-line from what you say but uploading a single CSV file (edited off-line) of your activator log would be more convenient for so many contacts.

  1. activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046 on 07.03 2010:

This time decided to walk all distance to the summit from my home (not to come half way by car). The ascent lasted 2h and 20 minutes, and the descent by another route 1 hour and 30 min (the height difference is 800 m, and the one way distance is 10-15 km - when you hear Z3/WM-046 now you know this summit is not an easy one - hi).
Longer walking goes together with lighter battery (12V/800ma) and in the same time this forced me to run lower power.
Was curious to see what can be done with only 1 W into inv-vee 5 m up.

The result of 1 hour and 20 minutes effective on the air activity is total of 56 CW QSOs on 7, 10, 14 and 21 Mc (including two S2S QSOs).

The output power of 1 W is more than enough for SOTA activation.

  1. activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046 on 13.03 2010:

A total of 52 QSOs with QRPp 0,5 w into inv-vee @ 5m.

Also achieved more than 2000 activators QSOs (for 34 activations).

  1. activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046 on 14.03 2010:

This time the power output was 2-3 W into the same antenna.
For 1 hour of activation a total of 76 QSOs on 40 and 30 m CW.
I used 12V/ 800ma battery to power the K1.

  1. activation of Krstovar, Z3/WM-046 on 20.03 2010:

A total of 337 QSOs were made using QRP power and Inv-Vee.

Very good Vlado.

Some more detail about your activation - times, bands, modes, use of contest S+P, working chasers etc - would be interesting.

Remember - you only need 4 QSOs to get the points

Hi Tom

I will enter the QSOs in the database soon.
The first QSO was logged at 08:40 utc and the last one at 17:55 utc.
I used K1, 7Ah battery and an Inv-Vee antenna at 5 m. The operation position was on the bench. The WX was excellent.
I used only CW on 7, 10, 14 and 21 Mc.
Before the Russian Contest I managed to work 119 QSOs calling CQ SOTA on 7, 10 and 14 Mc. Later I made 218 QSOs with S&P in the contest. The QRM was huge and calling and working the stations with QRP and making an exact report exchange with serial numbers was a challenge (managed to work an average of 35-40 stations per hour). The most distant stations contacted were in JA, K and UA0.
The initial goal was to have a fun and to try to make 389 QSOs and to come exactly on a total of 2000 QSOs from the Z3/WM-046 (didn’t like to stay longer on the summit during the night).

A total of 41 CW QSOs were made on 7, 10 and 14 Mc using 3 w and Inv-Vee.

Achieved more than 2000 QSOs only from this summit.
