Winter Bonus?

In reply to LA8BCA:

Guilty as charged!

In reply to G3CWI:
Did you meet Andy, G4GKK I think his call was? He was down that way around then (on his second trip out there - caught up in the earlier fracas on his first trip).

In reply to G4FUJ:

I took over from him. I was there from late '81 to early '84.

Small world… ;o)
We used to sink an ale or two together when I was home on leave - before he went off to the cold south!
Pal in Gloucester still keeps in touch with him…

In reply to G3CWI:

Andy: I look forward to the book. Have you had any interest in the
film rights?

There was talk of me being played by Bear Grylls although really you need someone much porkier, Ray Mears say, but fatter again still. Bear Grylls turned it down in the end because he was going to be so far out of his comfort zone.

Hi Richard, I have just checked an old log book and have an entry on 02/09/83 from VP8ANT on 10.100 CW 579 both ways, Ops name was Bob. Does that ring a bell?

73 Victor GI4ONL

In reply to GI4ONL:

No, you have that wrong. I was VP8ANT - it was my personal callsign. I have never been called Bob and no-one else ever used the call.

I saw you more in the mold of John Candy…

Nice photos Liz! Looks like you had a nice sunny day despite the cold.

I’ve just looked at Derek’s log for today - he did exceptionally well! I must try it again on a Sunday.

In reply to G3CWI:
Ok thanks for the reply, can you check if you have an entry on that date please, perhaps I got the name wrong because I have a question mark in my log.

73 Victor GI4ONL

I knew it was you as the operator of VP8ANT Richard. Thank you for the 10m CW QSO and the QSL for our contact on 29 09 1983 received almost 30 years ago! Doesn’t time fly. I hadn’t been licenced all that long then and that QSO stood as one of my best on 10m for some time.

In reply to G3CWI:

Wow Richard,

just had to look for the QSL in my HB9CSA-book.
Tnx for the nice card from Oct. 8th 1983 on 20m SSB (!)
QTH was Antarctica and QSL via G3ZAY.
