Gondala flight time is 1724 utc. 7 minutes to the top station tgen the walk to summit that is a 180 metre veryical ascent. First activstion of ve6/ec-001 if all goes to plan. Tony ve6/vk3cat

g day Tony glad you are among the big challenges of SOTA there in VE land. Have had a listen for you a couple times but un able to hear you un fortunately . Going out to do 2 summits my Sunday, listening to beacons on 15m this morning and band pretty dead, big RTTY op on 18.110 so can’t hear beacons there 20m not brilliant either. May be different in NH .
take care 73 Ian vk5cz …

Gud to hear from you Ian. Propagation seemed a bit better today. This summit was a short notice thing as I only got confirmation on access to the actual summit this morning. Nothing flash for antenna in the mag loop. Yet to even hear a beacon on 10m. A few contacts on 15m, most on 20m and all on cw.
WX is quite warm. Sitting in the back garden with an Irish Whiskey, lots of ice. Looking for more Elks and maybe a bear over the back fence.
Todays summit may also qualify as a National Park. Must check.
Not hard to see why so many summits remain un activated. I have only worked one VE and that was this morning. Nothing on U/VHF. Most summits will need a helicopter and/ or serious exeditions to activate. All those 10 pointers sitting within a quick scan out the window. Nan’s comment this morning said it all. “Thats mount Edith Cavell over there and there is no way I am climbing that!”.
The chasers here are really good. A qrx so a tourist cud take my photo was acknowledged & likewise as I caught the antenna as it was being blown over. Just using the camera tripod & had the windward leg anchored down with my bag and a rock
Hi hi
Cheers from ve6, enjoying the warm weather and catching up with my son Cameron for his birthday. Jasper fer a few more days then Banff.

Hi Tony,

Well done. Sounds like a tough gig in the garden. Propagation still rubbishy on higher freqs. Good luck with the next activations.

Hi Tony,

Many thanks. Congratulations on bagging bragging rights for Whistlers. You already were on the front page and inside front cover of APC News but you know have another two pages in the main magazine.

Ron. Whistlers peak in Alberta is a different peak to Whistler Mountain in British Columbia. As it happens both have single activations from VK operators.
