Just a short note to advise VK is planning a SOTA Party for Saturday 15 Nov 14 which will include activations throughout the day to sunset. Keep an eye on SOTAWatch for activator intentions.
Wx permitting, I plan to activate a number of summits in the Snowy Mountains region. I will include an activation for the LP window to Europe.
Just a reminder VK is holding a SOTA Party on 15/16 November 2014. I have encouraged VK activators to plan a SOTA activation around 07:00 UTC for a chance to work European activators S2S.
Wx permitting, I plan will activate VK2/SM-053, 8 points at 07:00 UTC.
Both Rod VK2TWR and Allen VK3HRA will be on a summit and looking for EU contacts Saturday.
Least one summit being VK3/VG-002. Nice 10 pointer.
The intention is to activate several summits in the area over the weekend as well as the Alpine National park.
I’ll be out. The plan is to do a joint activation with David M0YDH and possibly one other on the 15th. I’ve not yet firmed up the summit details with David. Also Barry M0IML will be out as will Allan GW4VPX.
I’ll just say, the usual T&Cs apply, subject to WX etc, etc, etc.
This is a great oportunity to grap some VK s2s. The 20m band is open to VK much later, so “no” 4am start required. My last VK contact with Greg VK8GM, was at 0920z this morning.
A few more EU activators would be very much appreicated?
Keeping my fingers crossed the Wx is suitable. Will be a big weekend for me with a minimum of 5 summits, Paul VK5PAS has a big adventure on the cards too. Looking forward to Saturday afternoon/evening.
Hi Angel,
There is a few ssb/cw alerts on SOTA watch, and as normal I will CW only.
However I will need the last of the daylight to make it safely back to my tent for the night so my activations will be short than some other VK’s.
Also I may head back out early on our Sunday, maybe around 1930 utc.
I will be self-spotting so keep an eye on SOTA watch. Both of my summits for this weekend are with in a WWFF park.
UPDATE: after a “reccie” of DL/AL-170, the summit to be activated has changed. It will now be DL/AL-171 Eisenberg and I hope to be active by 0730 UTC. Forecast at the moment for the weekend is cold, but not down to zero degrees so there should not be any more snow (but roads could be icy).
Nan and I will be operational on 40 thru to 10 metres on cw and phone from Mt Vinegar VK3/VC-005 and Mt Strickland VK3/VN-030. The first and probably the second summit is in the Yarra Ranges N.P VKFF-556
Subject to wx, a short activation will follow on Sunday (probably after UTC roll over) from Sugarloaf peak VK3/VN-011
Will be using the KX3 with 10 watts and a 20 metre double extended zepp. CW QRS 15 wpm pse.
Tony VK3CAT
If I can shake off this damn cold … I’ll see if I can get out on one of the G/WB hills too.
I’ll keep an eye open for the flashing red lights on Mike’s antenna in case of low flying aircraft
From what I can make out, prop between EU/VK is not very good on 20m right now. The DX Gods ‘may’ have thrown us a life line, as the SFI has perked up a tad.
It’s been about three weeks since I’ve worked any 20m in the morning, so subject to wx, I may pop up to Gun in the morning to see what conditions are like. I had planned a trip this morning, however, it’s blowing a hooligan here
My thoughts are, the 20m band won’t open to VK, much before 0800?
GL for Saturday, hopefully, we can make an s2s from G/WB-004, which should be a unique for you.
