SOTA surpasses IOTA?

In reply to F6ENO:

This was done with the little star (*) that has subsequently disappeared. Why ?

The time required to match the various logs against each other became very expensive in computer time. It was turned off to reduce the load on the server.

Now the newdatabase runs faster !

It’s now on a new dedicated server which is much faster.

Compare SOTA to IOTA? Why that’s like comparing apples to oranges and expressing the answer in marmosets. It doesn’t make sense!

The statement made was that SOTA had overtaken IOTA in popularity. No more. It may or may not be accurate depending on what you are comparing.

For some of us low-volume activators, or maybe even for everyone, a “My activating chasers” listing, showing who has claimed to chase you should be an idea worth considering

SELECT * FROM chaser_table WHERE activator = $my_callsign

should do it…

[edit] But I guess that will have to wait for the new DBadmin

you just qualified for the job :slight_smile:

Well lets have a look on my copy of the database…

sqlite> .output fmf
sqlite> select * from chaser where acall like “%FMF%”;
sqlite> .output ink
sqlite> select * from chaser where acall like “%INK%”;
sqlite> .quit
andy@kuro:~/sotamaps$ wc -l fmf
1994 fmf
andy@kuro:~/sotamaps$ wc -l ink
14962 ink
andy@kuro:~/sotamaps$

So what does that show me? Other than Steve’s worked 7 times the contacts I’ve worked!

I am in total agree with you :
Often a question drift in other subject and the first OM have no really answerd.
For me it is very difficult to be continued … How "we can pass from IOTA ( interesting question ) to ‘little star’ ( which, for me , is useless because verification is fastidious for very little result … but i am just Chaser

It would show how many of the QSOs have been chased by people who are SOTA chasers, rather than non-SOTA peeps who happen to have caught the CQ

I guess the problem is that there are so many ways of measuring size in any scheme like IOTA, SOTA etc that depending on the measure used, both are the largest %)

oops :slight_smile:

In reply to G8ADD:
But of course, SOTA is

non-competitive so if anybody does cheat they are only cheating
themselves…that is the official line

Is it? I think that the official line is different (or it was very recently anyway).
