There is cold wind blowing on the summit and the temperature is around 0 C. Einar SM5CBC could not copy my call sign on 40 m. The others did not even reply. Probable reason is the space wx, with K-index 3 now. There has been also recent aurora activity as observed at Sodankyla 150 km south from here
There are probably too few hams up here to take care of APRS network. I will continue to carry the APRS with me just in case that it would start to work.
I should probably concentrate on 80 m band in these conditions, but the antenna is not very effective on that band.
I tried again early morning on Sunday September 21 0400 UTC to activate the Kiilopaa summit. I could copy some OH, SM, SP, UT and YO stations working SAC test on 80 m and 40 m. On 10118 kHz there was a DX pile up going on. Finally QRT 0539 UTC on the foggy and windy summit. I did what I could with the equipment available, but the activation failed this time. The conditions are certainly different from central EU.
