Portugal (CT) National SOTA Day - Last news

Hi

I’m proud to announce that tomorrow, April 2th, it’s the Portuguese Sota National Day, celebrating 5 years of SOTA in Portugal.

49 callsigns will be actives in SOTA references across Portugal mainland and Azores.

This means that we had success in raising the interest on SOTA.

One of the call signs is from a Coimbra’s Club - Associacao de Radioamadores de Coimbra (CS5ARC).
Coimbra is a city in the center of Portugal that has one of the oldest universities in Europe.

A certificate will be sent as per Portugal (CT) National SOTA Day - 2016

The following stations will be on the air, activacting summits (not all made alerts on Sotawatch):

Not bad going so far

Morning early 20m poor but 40m ok
Then after 10:00hrs utc 20m became better

40M
CT/MN-044

20M
CT/ES-004
CT/DL-015
CT/BL-017
CT/RB-001

Big thanks to all to whom climbed these Portuguese Sota, certainly seemed abound so far today by 11hrs utc

Thanks again foks

Karl

Karl, VOACAP Online for Ham Radio

I entered your approx. location as the RX site and somewhere random in Portugal as the TX site. I then set the antennas at both ends to zero-gain and the TX power to 10W

You can see that 40m is good in the morning falling off as the D-layer gets stronger and 20m gets better as the F/E layers get better. As darkness returns the propagation changes back.

SW UK to mid-Portugal SSB

SW UK to mid-Portugal CW

The improvement in circuit reliability with all other parameters (antenna/power/conditions) remaining the same should be all the evidence anybody needs to learn Morse.

n.b. ignore the numbers in the centre, they relate to where the cursor was when the image was captured. The coloured bits convey the useful info.

Congratulations Pedro to you and your friends on stimulating so much interest in SOTA from Portugal to celebrate your National day! I am waiting for David CT1DRB/P to appear on CT/ES-003 as I write this.

OMG

That,s mind boggling.
Yes see that things are one way in morning and the mid day event goes back thing and on way to through and it changes back

hence the mid day as as i call it

This is gong to take some studying

Thanks andy

Hello Pedro,

Great fun today, I hoped for three CT contacts and got more. 20M was working very well today which I was surprised at.
Thanks to all the activators who made the National Day happen.
Best wishes
Mike

For us access to CT stations was a bit limited but we were also able to bag 10 S2S-stations.

We spent nearly 3 hours on top, set up two hf antennas and 1 vhf antenna and took two battery packs along

Thank you for such a great level of activity!

73, Sylvia

I must to thank to all chasers and activators the level of activity that was listened on the air today in CT/CU land, despite weather and band conditions.

The number of activators and chasers were beyond any dreams.
This includes newbies, VHF and UHF activity.

Also, this includes some new call signs that were actively envolved in the SOTA National Day.
With the group that I was with there are an new “old CT” activactor (callsign older than 30 yrs)…
Many groups across country do the same.

From now on, in Portugal, there are more awareness of the SOTA program.

Without any doubt, the Portuguese SOTA National Day was a huge success!

So, thank you all.

Hi all

As per rules all the chasers that contacted a CT or CU SOTA activator (April 2nd) is entitle to have a chaser certificate.

To receive the certificate, the OM who made QSO with CT/CU SOTA activator should send an email with a report (copy of SOTA database) to ctsotaday@gmail.com.
