Phil G4OBK 100000 points

Phil,

What an outstanding achievement - very well done.

Regards,

David.

Many Congratulations Phil. Well done! An excellent achievement.

P.S. I worked out that I will be 220 years old when I get to 100,000 chaser points. I think I will have given up activating by then.

Well done Phil.

An outstanding achievement. May the road rise with you on the next 100,000.

Congratulations Phil !

Congratulations, Phil.
Such score sounds amazing, awesome, highly impresive, unreachable by a mortal beingā€¦
They called it mile stoneā€¦
Considering how distant and unreacheable for me I see it, I would call it light-year stone!
My recognition and admiration, Phil. Very well done.
Surprisingly, Iā€™ve just checked that Iā€™ve never chased you. I guess itā€™s because you are mainly a weekdays activator, when Iā€™m at work.
EDIT: I found now that Iā€™ve never chased you as G4OBK/P but Iā€™ve done it while you were activating in other countries such as ON, DL and OM.
But you have chased me several times and thank you for that. Itā€™s always a big pleasure to hear your good signals when Iā€™m activating.
I hope to keep having you in my log for the years to come.
Best 73,

Guru

Well done Phil!

At my current rate,Iā€™d be 563 before I got to that point, somehow I donā€™t think Iā€™ll make it that far!

Well done, Congrats Phil

Congratulations, Phil! Well done!
ā€¦ and mni tks fr all QSOs!

Mny Congrats, Phil! An outstanding achievement. Thanks for all the QSOs so far. Looking forward to work you from my next summit.

Congrats, Phil: outstanding! Of course, you canā€™t stop now, youā€™ll have to set your sights on the 2*10^5 :scream:

73, Rob

Congratulations Phil. It is always great to get you in the log as both activator and chaser.

Oh No - another ā€œspecialā€ certificate

Well done Phil, always a recognisable signal and slick operation both as chaser and activator

Hello Everybody

Best wishes start to peter out now so I better reply!

Thank you to Roy for highlighting my significant milestone and all your good wishes. I intend to continue chasing and activating as often as I can as I have done before. In reply to a few comments:

I started chasing Sylvia on 2nd March 2002 when I chased G3CWI, one of the SOTA Co-Founders on what I believe was the first day of SOTA. I then made just 3 chaser QSOs in 2003 and none in 2004. In 2005 I became more active as a chaser and recorded 902 points that year.

Not long after the FT-817 was introduced (Autumn 2002 I believe) John G3WGV (the other SOTA Co-Founder) gave a presentation on SOTA at the RSGB HF Convention which sparked my imagination, but I waited until 2005 before I started activating, first in Scotland when on a holiday, and then in England.

Strangley enough Ken I bought a new keyboard last month when certain letters and number had worn off the keys!

I believe the average is 4.19 points per recorded activation, based on working 23862 activations for the 100000 points recorded Ian.

With great strides being made in medical science Gerald anything is possible! Alternatively retire, spend more time in the shack and get little else done! As been said before the addiction whether chasing or activating is difficult to control once you get hookedā€¦ I seem to have become addicted to both.

Yes Guru - I have logged you 52 times from my home station when you were active as EA2IF/P. A very prolific activator. I enjoy reading your common sense emails on the reflector with great interest!

Well Don - I think Geraldā€™s prediction on age may be achievable, but I fear yours will not be. You could hang up your boots one day (as we all will) and concentrate just on chasing instead! That is what I will do when I can no longer climb without suffering.

Yes, Barry you will be receiving a certificate claim from me shortly. Time to take stock and see what else I have qualified for. I might claim a few other certificates if I am entitled to any. Thank you for the time you put into your job as SOTA Awards Manager.

Yes, SOTA is brilliant and it brought a new lease of life to a hobby I have had since I built my first crystal set almost 50 years ago! The friendships made and the places visited have made this branch of amateur radio so alluring to meā€¦

Well thatā€™s when I bought mine, so Iā€™m sure it was earlier - sometime in 2001 I think.

Yes you could be right Tom. The one I have is a 2006 model.

At the Convention when John G3WGV gave his presentation on SOTA which I think was 2002 (it could have been 2001 though) a Yaesu dealer from the USA also gave a presentation on the same day on the newly introduced FT-817 from a backpackers point of view, the FT-817 being the first truly HF solid state back packers radio.

Sustained advancement including lots of completes. You join an elite club. Well done Phil and thanks for all the Top Band contacts in amongst the 100,000.
73, John.

Belated congratulations & very well done Phil

I am also pleased to say that I helped you along with a few of those points. Whenever I have activated on Top Band you have always had a fantastic signal & good receiver. The times we didnā€™t work, you were not around that day anyway

Even better, a few of those points were from S2S contacts & the ones I remember the most were when you were activating GD/GD-002 & GD/GD-001 in May 2011 when we worked each other on 160m. Terrible weather that day, I was showing early signs of hypothermia sat on G/SP-007 Fair Snape Fell for most of that cold morning & I know you would have cancelled GD-001 due to the conditions but you knew I was was waiting for you

Congratulations also on your fine result in the 6m/10m challenge!

Thanks & very best 73,

Mark G0VOF

Cheers John and Mark. I had forgotten about the GD 160m QSOs we had Mark and you refreshed my memory! Of course the top band worldwide activator king on 160m is John G4YSS AKA GX0OOO/P. We all have our individual SOTA interests and specialisms, chaser and activator and completer, that one reason why SOTA is so much fun!

73 Phil

Hearty Congratulations Phil thatā€™s awesome

Hope to give you some more very soon !
