OE5JFE Activation report Langfirst OE/OO-442

Hello everyone,

Today no video but some impressions from my snow shoe hike. Surprisingly not so many cars at the Hengstpass parking plot that is usually very popular on a sunny day. There are a total of 4 SOTA summits accessable and a lot of hikers and ski-tourers are enjoying the place.

But I was here quite early (7:40 LT) and hiked on the forest road toward my today summit Langfirst OE/OO-442.

About half way during my ascent a bolt on one snow shoe broke and I did an improvised repair with the antenna guy rope. Sometimes one needs to be creative to make an activation happen

As today was the 3rd Sunday in February VHF/UHF/SHF OE activity day took place and I brought my 3D printed 4 Element lightweight yagi along…

On the summit I started with 2m FM and followed up with one QSO on 70cm with Heinz OE5HDN.
Then I continued with the contest part and made 11 QSO on 2m SSB. No contact on 70cm SSB. Only heard some CW stations.

After melting some snow and preparing a bowl of ramen noodles on my alcohol stove I gave 20m SSB a try but conditions were a bit odd.

With only minor problems due to the still unstable snow shoe I managed to get back on the road.

I thought only I lost things…

Luckily it rarely happens. - fingers crossed - I guess it happened getting stuck in the snow or while again and again adjusting the snowshoe my sunglasses felt from my jacket.

Btw. yesterday someone told me a story that on the way to a hut with snow shoes they found a car key laying in the snoe. Asking around in the hut people were checking their pockets and really someone was missing the key.
They ordered a round of beer for the finders and the whole hut was cheering :beers:

not only money is important in travel…
