New Welsh SOTA Summit - Mynydd y Cwm

I am pleased to announce that Wales
will have a new SOTA summit starting
from the 2nd May 2009.

Mynydd y Cwm GW/NW-076 Grid
Ref. SJ073767 is situated close to
Rhuallt Hill just off the A55. The
RHB survey team revisited the summit
earlier this year and concluded that
this summit justifies being elevated to
Marilyn status. This will be confirmed
in the next Marhofn newsletter.

The database has been updated with
this new summit and it qualifies just in time for the
International SOTA Day this weekend.

By the way, if anyone is planning to activate The
Great Orme NW-070 this weekend,
bear in mind that it is the Victorian
Extravaganza weekend 2nd, 3rd & 4th May.
Llandudno will be very busy with part
of the high street (Mostyn Street) closed to traffic.

In reply to MW0IDX:

This summit is so close to where Helen GW7AAU works she could throw a stone from the fire escape and hit anyone operating from the top. If everyone activating this one on a weekday could arrange to do it during her coffee break they will only need another three contacts. Hopefully I will check out this one next week sometime.

In reply to GW7AAV:

Perhaps Helen should install a turnstile and sell tickets for the Mongolian Hordes who will descend on Saturday in an attempt to be the first to bag this one! By the way, the 1:50000 map does not acccurately show the situation that the 1:25000 does.

If only the situation were to be repeated at our soon to be added GM/SI summit Sail Chalmadale (SI-223?). I’ve a feeling that one may go for some time before it is activated.
