A sunny June Saturday in Lancashire.

Billinge Hill G/SP-017: Billinge Hill SP-017
Winter Hill G/SP-010: Winter Hill SP-010

Hardly the most inspiring days on the hills, but hey ho, I wanted the 6m/10m Challenge multipliers.

More soon.

A few more, often with the theme of “an activation on the way to a gig”!

Walton Hill G/CE-002: Walton Hill CE-002
Bishop Wilton Wold G/TW-004: Bishop Wilton Wold TW-004
Rombalds Moor G/NP-028: Rombalds Moor NP-028

Also updated, with new photos and reports are:

The Cloud G/SP-015: The Cloud SP-015
Gun G/SP-013: Gun SP-013

And as I keep saying, more soon. Still working my way to the Sperrins

And with a big push this evening, I’m up to the end of July 2015! I really musn’t leave it so long next time. I think I’ve said that before though…

So what’s new this time?

Well, the main feature is the 24 hour backpacking activation I did in late July:

Cadair Berwyn GW/NW-012: Cadair Berwyn NW-012

This report covers two days of activations, a more detailed report than I’ve been doing lately, and lots of photos.

Also, we have the rest of the activations up to that date for:

Gun G/SP-013: Gun SP-013
The Cloud G/SP-015: The Cloud SP-015

I have broken the latter into two webpages as it was getting “rather long”. So the main page, currently, and tragically, starts with the 17th July activation that was overshadowed in every way. A huge mill explosion took place in the valley just below the summit while I was operating, and four people sadly lost their lives.

The SP-015 activations from the start of the year up to that point can be found on this page:

http://tomread.co.uk/the_cloud_2015_(1).htm

If you look carefully on there, you can see my homemade paella! Mmm, must make that again soon…

Also, I have corrected one or two typos and “factual errors” reported to me by M0HGY earlier this evening…

This means … that the next webpages I make, at last, will be for the GI trip to the Sperrin Mountains! Whoop whoop!

GI trip #3: Binevenagh GI/SM-015

This webpage also includes the photos I took in Derry earlier the same day. One of, if not THE most interesting and unusual city I have ever visited in my life.

More soon!

GI trip #4: Loughermore GI/SM-014

http://tomread.co.uk/loughermore_sm-014.htm

Lousy HF cndx, low activity and a difficult qualification - thanks Victor GI4ONL for pulling us out of this one!

More to follow.

GI trip #5: Holywell Hill GI/SM-022

http://tomread.co.uk/holywell_hill_sm-022.htm

This one had a proper pillar trig point, but no reference on the WAB list. The summit lies exactly on the border between GI and EI.

GI trip #6: Clondermot Hill GI/SM-023

http://tomread.co.uk/clondermot_hill_sm-023.htm

Four different accesses onto this hill attempted before we got to the summit! A very challenging - and time-consuming morning!

GI trip #7: Gortmonly Hill GI/SM-024

http://tomread.co.uk/gortmonly_hill_sm-024.htm

An incredibly boring hill, and incredibly boring activation with incredibly boring photographs to match. No real point bothering to click on the link to be honest…

GI trip #8: Slievekirk GI/SM-018

http://tomread.co.uk/slievekirk_sm-018.htm

Last of a 4 summit day of 1-pointers in the Sperrin Mountains.

GI trip #9: Benbradagh GI/SM-009

http://tomread.co.uk/benbradagh_sm-009.htm

Lovely hill. Nice one to do with a family for anyone in that situation. Big reward for very little effort.

GI trip #10: Donald’s Hill GI/SM-013

http://tomread.co.uk/donald’s_hill_sm-013.htm

Horrible featureless midge-infested tedious bog of a hill. Might return someday to do the trig point which is fortunately much nearer the road. Not sure if it is in the activation zone though.

GI trip #11: Crockdooish GI/SM-020

http://tomread.co.uk/crockdooish_sm-020.htm

The last summit of our trip to the Sperrins area, and we will definitely be back to tackle the bigger hills in the region. This page also has pictures from our visits to Bushmills and White Park Bay en route back to Larne.

GI trip #12: Big Collin GI/AH-008

http://tomread.co.uk/big.htm

Evening outing to grab an extra bonus SOTA 10m/6m Challenge multiplier - and to avoid the tedium of the X Factor on telly.

This was the 12th and final activation of my August GI trip.

Thanks, Tom M1EYP

A few odds and ends tidied up so that The Cloud G/SP-015 and Gun G/SP-013 pages are up-to-date too. Near the bottom of the G/SP-015 page, you can see the photos of the new (to us) path investigated by Liam and I.

http://tomread.co.uk → click on the SOTA index, etc etc

My website is completely up-to-date, with reports, details, photos and logs appearing on an individual webpage (all indexed) of every one of the 1791 activations I have done - so far…

And relax…

Tom M1EYP

Big effort, Tom. Interesting reading and viewing.
It’s an interesting confluence of skills; maths, music and morse. They do go hand in hand, so often.

Thanks Andrew. Indeed, music is an audible version of mathematics, and the theory and notation of music is entirely mathematical. Mr Pythagoras had a big part to play in the development of both I believe.

There is no doubt that I found morse “fairly”* easy to learn because I was already an experienced musician. *(It still took a fair bit of effort and determination!).

I suppose 400 activator uniques is the next target now. Which will mean yet more pages on my website! Nice to know someone out there is reading it anyway!
