Tom, has your little brother been to Casablanca for an “operation” ?

I clicked on the link to “his” website on your music page and a picture of a foxy blond chick appeared!

You had me worried there Andy about exactly what sort of site my brother was forwarding to now. Alas, it’s just a domain-parking page. I’ll find out where he is now on the www and update it!

Anyway, you’re SUPPOSED to be looking at my SE/SC activations…

In the meantime, updates continue apace. Jimmy has started proof-reading the new pages from our SE/SC tour, and is reporting errors to me every two minutes. Like the fact that we had breakfast at Warwick Services, not Oxford Services, and that my first photo on Black Down G/SE-003 was of the NT donation box, not a trig point etc etc.

It’s going to be a long night…

Cheers

Tom M1EYP

In reply to M1EYP:
The “Demon Axe Warriors”… now you’ve got me really worried about what will happen when my daughter leaves primary school!

…and I thought the SOTA part of the site was interesting!

Another batch of updates completed, and linked from the summit information pages here on SOTAwatch. The new or updated ones are:

Carneddol GW/NW-068
Garn Boduan GW/NW-066
Carn Fadryn GW/NW-058
Mynydd Rhiw GW/NW-064
Yr Eifl GW/NW-075
Gyrn Ddu GW/NW-050
The Cloud G/SP-015
Gun G/SP-013
Shining Tor G/SP-004
Easington Fell G/SP-012

Hail Storm Hill G/SP-009
Kisdon G/NP-026
Yarlside G/NP-019
The Calf G/NP-013
Rogan’s Seat G/NP-014

The photos from the NPs at the bottom of the list have come out particularly well and worth a look - just superb photo-taking wx conditions. The silly hats/cream tea/cheese & wine on Easington Fell have to be seen to be believed. The Moel Famau/Foel Fenlli pair were done with the Norwegian trio of Kjell LA1KHA, Mads LA1TPA and Aage LA1ENA, so you can see the meet up on those pages. The bottom of the Gun page has all the photos and details from the CQWW SSB dabble by M0GIA, M3EYP and myself.

Please take a look at http://tomread.co.uk and feel free to leave any feedback in the guestbook - or on here.

Cheers, Tom M1EYP and Jimmy M3EYP (who has done quite a lot of editing and photo formatting for this set of updates).

I have updated my website - http://tomread.co.uk

Aye Gill Pike G/NP-023
Shining Tor G/SP-004
Wild Boar Fell G/NP-007 (NP Fun Day with group meet photos)
Hoove G/NP-024 (with Tan Hill Inn photos)

All indexed on the SOTA page on http://tomread.co.uk

Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I did compiling them (if you visit them). Please sign the guestbook!

Failing that, you will need to browse the SOTA index page on my website at http://tomread.co.uk

The best photos worth looking at (IMHO) are on the pages for GM/ES-001, GM/ES-005 and GM/SS-246. Hope you enjoy looking at the pages as much as I did creating them. Feedback welcome on here or via the guestbook on my website.

Cheers,

In reply to M1EYP:

Thanks Tom. The “Recent Summit Info” page is always worth checking:

http://www.sotawatch.org/summitinfo.php

I notice that the database is fast approaching 2,000 links and articles. It is certainly a valuable resource for planning SOTA activations.

New webpages are now on http://tomread.co.uk for:

GW/NW-011 Arenig Fawr
GW/NW-018 Moel Llyfnant
GW/NW-064 Mynydd Rhiw
GW/NW-072 Mynydd Enlli

There are some nice photos on the NW-011 and NW-018 pages as it was such a lovely day weather wise. Of these four, only the NW-018 page shows up on the ‘Recent Summit Info’ link on here, as the other three pages already existed from previous years’ activations.

The NW-072 has a good set of photos from Bardsey Island. It was really nice to visit that place again. There are also new photos on the ever-updating SP-015 page, featuring Gerald G4OIG’s debut on the summit.

The site has now got reports, information and photos for all of my 874 SOTA activations to date (plus all 321 of Jimmy’s), covering 227 unique summits, all in the UK. There is a link from each of the applicable 227 summit information pages on SOTAwatch as well.

I recently read a great line on Steve GW7AAV’s website:

“When your website is finished so is your life…”.

Up-to-date again, at last.

Not much in the way of new uniques this time, but the new pages on for the expeditions to Black Hill, Kinder Scout, Shining Tor, Gun, The Cloud, Bishop Wilton Wold and Kisdon certainly capture much of our snowy winter.

There is also Jimmy’s Great Orme report, but that one is awaiting photos.

In reply to M1EYP:

Cracking pictures from Kinder Scout.
Tom (M3XFG ) and I hope to be up there on 2nd May again this year.

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind comments James. I look forward to working you S2S on International SOTA Weekend.

A couple of new pages on my website if anyone wants to see what the summits look like:

G/LD-026 Tarn Crag
G/LD-038 Grayrigg Forest

…and some new photos on the G/SP-015 The Cloud page.

http://tomread.co.uk

Seems I didn’t advise of my previous update. But ISW - Gun G/SP-013 - is on the site now, complete with photos og the carnage that greeted us on the Sunday morning after braving the storm huddled in our tents.

Also on there are the photos and reports from the “Derrick Bird Days” - five activations in the Lakes - Holme Fell G/LD-051, Lingmoor Fell G/LD-040, Gummer’s How G/LD-050, Pike of Blisco G/LD-024 and Muncaster Fell G/LD-055.

The first three Backpackers Contest sessions are on the site, with activations of Foel Fenlli GW/NW-051, Moel Famau GW/NW-044, Kinder Scout G/SP-001, Great Orme GW/NW-070 and Tal y Fan GW/NW-040.

The other new page added is the July activation of Bardon Hill G/CE-004.

See all at http://tomread.co.uk

Furthermore, did I ever mention the new SOTA accessory I have designed? It is a headset mini SOTA Beam. It does make you look like a Teletubby, but for truly portable SOTA, surely it is the future?

See me modelling the kit here:

Lots more new summit pages and photos will be added shortly.

Tom M1EYP

No takers for the mini-SOTA-beam-head-mount?

More updates on the site now. Only The Cloud SP-015, Gun SP-013 and Hutton Roof Crags LD-052, but perhaps of more interest will be the school outing back in July (on the SP-015 page) and the activations of 5 licensed students from my school.

In reply to M1EYP:

Excellent report! Good to see some youngsters enjoying the hobby.

At first I thought there was something odd about the photos, then it clicked, they are all holding the mic in their right hands. I think most people hold it in their left so they can write notes or the log with their right.

btw - the two video links at the bottom of the page seem broken (maybe the files are still uploading).

Colin G8TMV

Great spot Colin! Of course, being an understanding and kindly teacher (ha ha), I did all the logging for them. Last year I prepared all the students with a personalised log sheets, but they still found doing their own logging while operating portable for the first time to be too much! So this year I had a rethink - which resulted in a much more successful activity.

Yes, I am struggling to successfully embed the video files in such a way as they playback from the website. Any knowhow (I am using Frontpage) appreciated, otherwise I may simply “cheat” and link to them on YouTube instead!
