Thanks for posting Steve. I am member of North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR). Like Woodhead much of our work is spent looking for missing people on behalf of the Police. These can be missing for a variety of reasons, not just “hill walking”. Most of what we do is people who are depressed and may be thinking of harming themselves. We turn out in the middle of the night to try and find them before they can hurt or even kill themselves. It can be very rewarding. If you are a keen hill walker and live in an area served by an MR team have a think about volunteering.
