Marcial EA2BDS first long jump (EA2<>VK S2S)

Today we have planned an early activation to answer the multiple VK afternoon activations… yesterday?
We left Bilbao at 0500z and, as bad weather, rain and perhaps some lighting were forecasted, we chose our well-known summit Lemoatxa, EA2/BI-063, where a small forest chapel could provide us shelter.
At 06:29z, after arriving and setting up one of the rigs, we were trying to hear some of our VK mates down there, when at 0642z on 14 SSB we made our first -and unique- today S2S VK QSO with Andrew, VK1NAM/p on VK1/AC-008.
It was the very first summit to summit qso with VK for Marcial who, although resisted to dance, seemed to be quite happy.
Later, until 0705z we had the pleasure to make several more QSOs with VK SOTA followers, both in CW and SSB: Peter VK3PF, Ron VK3AFW, Samuel VK2AFA, Tony VK3CAT, Bernard VK3AV, Ernie VK3DET, and Rhett VK3WE. Some of them made it on CW QRS, and we appreciated their efforts to start improving CW activity from VK land.
Once the “long jump” finished, we set up the other antenna and rig, and started working on two bands at the same time. Unfortunately, today there were interferences between our equipments and finally we decided to use just one, leaving the other on stand-by as second S2S rig.
Anyway, on my side those are the numbers: about 60 QSOs, 14 of them S2S (thank you all) which, by the way, made me pass over the 1k S2S points border.
So we can say for sure that today was a milestones day, not only for Marcial but for me as well.
Thank you guys for a fine activation day!

Well done to Marcial and many thanks for the two S2S this morning. I saw you were changing antennas and was hoping to work u before leaving. It was worth hanging around for a few more minutes !!

TU to Ron VK3AFW, Tony VK3CAT and Rhett VK3WE this morning too. The opening this morning was good, strong signals hr.

I had a tough start on my end, the band was absolutely dead at 6.40z and I was pretty tired after a short night sleep and the trip to the UK National Hamfest yesterday, …where BTW I was good to meet Mike 2E0YYY and Richard G3CWI
The 3x espresso in the flask kept me going this morning…

Today, I was operating with the MTR 5W and a vertical antenna:
5.5m radiator, 2x5m elevated radials on a 10m pole
6:1 balun
4m rg213 to elecraft T1

Hi Mikel and Marcial

A big surprise to hear you both call me on Mt Ginini VK1/AC-008! Mt Ginini has a very low noise floor, your signal was in the clear. Thank you both for a new EA summit, hope to work S2S again.

My gear: FT-857D, 38 watts, Inverted V link dipole 10/20/40, supported by a 7 metre squid pole. Batteries 2 x 4.2 Ah 4S LiFePO.
