Looking for EU and UK S2S

Hi all

I plan to activate Mt Ainslie VK1/AC-040 on Friday starting at 06:30 UTC for one hour. I am looking for EU and UK S2S and chasers 20m long path. VK1 sunset is 07:40 UTC.

Hi Andrew,

I’m looking for an excuse to get out of some house painting, so I guess a G/VK s2s is a good as any.

I’m planning to activate what should be a unique for you. However, this is subject to WX, which right now isn’t looking good. Will PM you later this week.

Hi Mike

In addition to the activation planed for Friday, I have received agreement from the property owner of Spring Hill, VK2/ST-036 (4 points) to operate from the peak on Sunday morning UTC, Sunday afternoon local. The region’s WX forecast is for a fine sunny day, with light winds and a top of 18 degrees. Perfect for a late afternoon activation.

Hi all

Excellent conditions long path to VK this evening. 56 EU chasers including S2S with Herbert OE9HRV, Pavel OK1MCS and Mike 2W0YYY, all three were unique summits.
Thanks Pavel for two ‘OK/PL’ summits in a week.

Thanks EU chasers it was fun working the pile up from 06:30 to 07:50 UTC. Sorry I had to go QRT sunset was 07:40 UTC. Thanks Mike G6TUH for the spots and your help to find Mike YYY.

If you are on a summit Sunday morning or in the shack, I plan to activate VK2/ST-036 Spring Hill, at 06:00 UTC. I look forward to offering up a new unique summit on Sunday.

Hi Andrew,

You had a great run/fun today. Very interesting how the propagation changed within the LP window.

Another Andrew  VK1MBE was 57 here.

I was really pleased because the high winds and rain as you know have kept my hexbeam at 2 metres and still is. I could not hear you on the vertical because of noise local to here - sounded like electric stock fencing sparking.

Sunday weather looks better so hopefully will be able to get up to full height. Judging from the spots I think Mike YYY must have got pretty wet!

Well done on the S2S’s - targets achieved!

Cheers
Mike

Hi Andrew,
many thanks for nice S2S contact today. You had very good signal on OK/PL-051, around the 7UTC you were stronger, but I must QRT and going to QRL :frowning:

On OK/PL-051 today I used about 40W out and inverted vee antenna @ 5m. The summit is a rock with nice look-out. Many thanks also to VK1MBE for the another S2S contact. Before I QRT, 6 VKs were in my log

On OK/PL-041 last Sunday I used only 5W out from my FT-817 and inverted vee @ 10m. Also 6 VKs in my log.

Not sure if QRV this Sunday morning UTC.

Pavel OK1MCS

Hello Pavel,
Thanks for the summit today and well done S2S.

I think you will make VK’s and others very happy if you can go out on Sunday

Very good signal from you this morning. 40 rather than 5w makes it easier for DX to work you!
Best wishes
Mike

Ambiguous definition?
If EU stands for Europe then UK is part of it.
If EU stands for European Union then UK is (still) part of it - but HB9 and others will be excluded.
Don’t worry, fortunately not an issue within SOTA, hi.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your patience this morning. The 20m band refused to open into G and to make matters worse it was chucking it down. Every time I go to North Wales, it seems to rain :frowning:

I could just hear you in the back of the box after you were spotted … just not strong for us to work. However, I could hear the EU chasers working you. Seems right now, G is just a hop too far from VK in the morning.

Thanks for the s2s and for taking my second call, by which time you were an easy copy. I’m really pleased GW/NW-076 turned out to be a unique for you. Thanks also, for the heads up on Andrew VK1MBE’s QRG. I QSY’d straight there and the EU chasers took a standby to allow us to complete the s2s, giving me another VK1/AC unique. Thanks to Andrew VK1MBE and the EU Chasers.

As quickly as the 20m band opened to VK, it evaporated. Many thanks to Ron VK3AFW, Matt VK1MA and Ernie VK3DET for taking the time to call in.

Thanks to Mike G6TUH and Ron VK3AFW for the spots. Very hard work on 20m this morning.

Hello Mike

I disagree Mike - perhaps the game is not over but in another month it may be. Propagation moved around. When Herbert OE9HRV was QRV ( I spoke with him at 06:06Z) he had already had a run of VK chasers which I had been monitoring to see how the propagation was - that is did I have a chance with the VK activators  The VK signals then declined and then by 06:38Z the propagation improved and became quite stable with Andrew VK1NAM coming up to 58 (for an hour) here and the other Andrew VK1MBE not far behind.

Sorry that you got a soaking. You must be dry by now!

Night night
Mike

Hi Heinz

Thanks for the note on EU and UK. There are only so many characters in the comments text field. I’m very happy to work anyone, anywhere at anytime and always happy exchange reports with stations in Switzerland.
