Jubilee Tower 2010

Not sure how I missed this but…

The 25th October 2010, marks the 200th anniversary of laying the foundation stone of the Jubilee Tower situated on the summit of Moel Famau GW/NW-044. In 1810, 200 years ago 5000 people processed to the top of Moel Famau, to watch Lord Kenyon of Flintshire, as he laid the tower’s foundation stone on behalf of the Prince of Wales.

There is an event organised to recreate that procession on Sunday 24th October.

So if you are thinking of activating GW/NW-044 on that day you will need to be there very early or you will be parking in the next county, as the organisers are hoping for massive support. It might however be a great chance for some publicity for what we do, as press and several hundred private cameras are likely to be there.

It seems a great opportunity for a special event call, but short notice. If someone fancies doing a celebratory activation but does not fancy the crowds it could be done on the actual bicentenary (Monday 25th) of course.

The actual procession starts at 16:45 so an activation could be timed to start way before the hoards arrive and you could then join the lantern parade back down.

In reply to GW7AAV:

Here are some old postcard prints of the tower before partial demolition:
