Its amazing the difference in signal levels between your shack and on the hill Mike. My s meter rarely dropped below s9 with all the qrm from adjacent frequencies - the background noise on your rig isnt too bad & you have pre-amp 1 switched in. Those Icom 7400`s take a lot of beating for the price.
For the record, my 5 activations yesterday resulted in 238 contacts which are now in the database

Yes Steve, pre-amp 1 was switched on to see what effect it had on the pulsed qrm, I then forgot to switch it off, normally I don’t have the preamp on, because it gives a false report and increases the noise with the signal. I agree on the IC-7400 being good value for money.
