Cycling activations - show us your bike!

This is my new bike for activating (and more general riding of course). {show off} It’s a Focus Cayo Evo 2.0 {/show off}. It has yet to be used on an activation - but it will be.

If you do (or have done) any cycling/SOTA trips, please post a photo of your bike and a brief description here.

Taken today, enroute to The Cloud SP-015.

VTT GITANE… Not to do again on the “Domaine skiable”… Not going up on a red skiing trace !!! Losing more than 1h30 during the “climb” !!!
Yes the down is faster !!!

I think I’ve done arround 500 m during the up on the bike !!! The rest of the time I should push it… Same BRING it in the “easier” way !!! Not to do again by this way with this bike !!!
My physio will be mad if he know that !!! hiii !!!
That day I’ve La Cucumelle and Roche-Gauthier starting from “La Salle Les Alpes”…!!!

Interesting mix of bikes starting to appear. Perhaps mine should win a prize for being the least suitable (but it’s so much fun to ride). Like any cyclist, I have several bikes of course.

Let’s see some more bikes!

On the ride into the first activation of Faochaig GM/WS-137. Standard Trek Mountain bike. Cycling in walking boots and wearing a rucksack. Not ideal, but it works as a compromise. Picture is of my wife Sue holding both bikes.

This one can be ridden (or pushed on some bits!) all the way to the summit. Fantastic fast descent back to the car. Green Lowther GM/SS-056.

Nice one Gerald. I have also done Green Lower by bike and enjoyed that fast empty road!

I have had a lot of fun activating by mountain bike this year. It sure beats walking back down!

I road my Jamis MTB to Illawarra Hill its only about 2 km on the farm road and an easy climb by bike . I have several bikes too I nearly got a Focus cyclo cross bike second hand but I have an Avanti cross bike my friends call it the JAFA cos of its black and orange. Gears may be a bit tall to be climbing summits loaded with a back pack, and very few summits in vk5 with a road to the top. [activation zone] .

My main SOTA bike is also my Audax bike.
It’s getting a bit long in the tooth now at 10 years old and 70k miles on the clock.

It is a Thorn Audax.
Frame is custom conical Reynolds 853 double butted tubing.
Forks are Reynolds 531.
Shimano Ultegra Groupset and wheels are (my) handbuilt Mavic Open Pro laced 3x with Sapim double butted spokes on Shamano hubs and a SON Nabendynamo on the front for night ridding.

Most important part is the Brooks Swift Titanium saddle.
Don’t leave home without one!

The bike used in the SOTA Cycling Weekend in 2013 when I used it to help me activate four summits in the GM/SB region. More info: G4OBK SOTA June 2013.

The bike has now been sold and replaced with a Dawes Mountain Bike, I’ll send a picture later when I have taken one…

Here is the same bike in August 2008 about to take me up to Rogan’s Seat G/NP-014. Earlier in the day the bike took me almost to the summit of Mickle Fell G/NP-002. On Ragan’s Seat the gamekeeper of the Gunnerside Estate did not like to see a cycle on the grouse moor and took humbrage…
