Association XXX

How one gets listed under association XXX – No Association Yet in the sotadata’s “View Results” page?
What’s the meaning and the use of that?

It exists as an association for people who wish to take part in SOTA but do not live where there is an association. For example, someone in Turkey who wanted to chase summits and log the chases could set their home association to XXX. When there is a Turkish association they only need to change their home to Turkey.

OK, it makes sense. Although, I’m still wondering what all those SP and OM guys are doing there?

Plus, the list I referred to in my yesterday’s posts was about activators (Activator Roll of Honour) from the Association XXX !?!

Maybe they just didn’t set a home association when they joined. Or they joined as Chasers long ago and are now activating, and never updated their profiles or remembered that they had set it to XXX.

Plenty of perfectly good explanations

I doubt that we can find any good explanation for having a triple MG, with the callsign from a country with the very active association, being listed as an activator in the “Not Association Yet” Association.

And, just for the record, it’s not that this issue bothers me a tiny bit, I’ve just thought that you MT guys might be interested in revisiting the issue of this ghostly association.

Well, that’s the thing. It’s not an issue. The honour rolls or home association have no impact on anything SOTA related. So, no, we’re not bothering to revisit it. If someone from 9A wants to be in VK9 as their home association, go for it. If someone doesn’t want to associate with, eg, a VK assocation, set it to XXX.

The point is, the association exist for a good reason (chasers from non-SOTA regions), and if some people can’t update their profile or want to set that as their assocation when activating, then that’s their problem, not the MT’s. Being a Triple MG means nothing if they genuinely have forgotten to update their profile…

In my case, this is a conscious choice. Why ? Please do not ask.
Let me just say that it prefers only competition on the principles of “Fair Play”.

I will not
Congratulations on your impressive SOTA score.
