A838 closed at Laxford Bridge

The bridge which gives Laxford Bridge its name has been closed after receiving servere structal damage when an Army transport lorry crashed there today. The lorry ended up in the river 30ft below. Just how the lorry came to crash remains a mystery.

The downside of this is that the top NW corner of Scotland has now become even harder to reach resulting in 100+ mile detours through Lairg and Altnaharra. The bridge is likely to stay closed for some considerable time whilst being repaired. Anyone intending to visit the area, which features some of Scotland’s greatest countryside, should take note.

Update: The bridge is open to cars and small vans but the width is severely restricted.
