Hi Dow,

I’m really pleased you made the trip, trust me, I really enjoyed working 10m FM today!

The fact that your antenna is an Antron-99, made my day too

Thanks for posting the video, I was surprised at the quality of the audio.

Look forward to working you real soon…

Hi Dow,

I don’t have EQSL, however, I can drop a card in the mail tomorrow if that’s okay?

I think the problem is that eQSL doesn’t really support portable operation, more exactly for every portable operation you have to create a new account with the location and the date of operation. I also was doing a lot of operating on satellite and VHF/UHF from different grids, but when it turned out that my grid cannot be confirmed for eAwards without creating thousands of accounts I simply got fed up and left. The solution from my point of view would be that they allow attaching QTH info (and perhaps different QSL images on higher grade accounts) directly into the QSO info (in the ADIF data), but until such time it is just way too much hassle to use with portable operation.

Hello,

Good news all round :sunglasses:
Well done.

Mike I heard the S2S with Konrad in ZS land - is this the first ZS-GW S2S. I also heard Marko S57MS work Konrad so another first I think?

Dow check out Logbook of the World! You can have multiple accounts, is free and no messing around with card images etc.
Cheers
Mike

Hello mike

Good to catch you on summit on 20m
Good ground wave conditions yesterday

Talking of Eqsl

One uses this oneself and has a portable account already set up to which I will set up or adjust to which portable operation one is doing.
Qsling paper wise is expense hence one reason one does not do it
BUT if one receives a Paper QSL one will return TNX that Qsl.

Lastly nice to hear some one else getting excited after 54 years licenced as DX One very much enjoys but also making harder contacts more localised such as back scatter and Ground wave and localised skip as well aurora contacts.

Goes to prove one thing even on air for years and years still something to get excited about
I really think EQSL is the best way to exchange QSL
For SOTA chasing I figure the SOTA database does all the necessary. For activations it’s not quite so easy, because the “confirmed” asterisks only work one way. I figure LotW has the least worst system for general electronic QSLs I’ve come across so far; it handles changes in location way better than any of the others. None of the general systems handle callsign differences (particularly /P) particularly well, though.

The best QSL system is the one implemented by me and many others… Don’t QSL.

It works every time without fail and is compatible with all known (and unknown) logging systems whether manual or electonic. It also works whether you are member of a national society with an outgoing QSL bureaux or not.

Occasionally, you will receive the odd incoming QSL, whether you are listed in QRZ or not (I’m not listed through choice). In such a case open the QSL and check for green stamps. Keep the green stamps for your own use (such as paying for dances at Bada Bing type venues) and drop the rest into the recycling box.

In our local Poundland they stock black Santa Claus hats with the words “Bah Humbug!” on them. I think I’ll send you one for Xmas, Andy!

I already have one - and the matching t-shirt. Perfect for all events
I got loads of eqsl fro Activators with the /P after their Calls.
…but I expect a few get missed because one side of the contact has logged a call with “/P” but the other side has entered it without “/P”. LotW (in particular) is fussy about that level of accuracy.
You can set up more than one account.
It’s tedious enough having LotW keys for every callsign combination in one account. EQSL’s rather tedious and cumbersome way of handling portable operation involves creating a new account for every single location and date and time window. I’ve only done that for half a dozen SOTA summits, and it’s already getting unwieldy. I hate to think what it’d be like after a few hundred activations, but it has to be done if the QSLs are to give accurate QTH information. I can see why activators (even the ones without the “Bah Humbug!” hats and t-shirts) might think EQSL was more trouble than it was worth…
does work for Activators that want to use it
Sure, it works for some, but it does involve quite a bit of extra work above the normal logging of an activation to the SOTA database, and once you’ve done a few activations (each with its own account because that’s the only way to get the correct location information in) you get an increasingly lengthy radio button selection list of possible accounts each time you go to log in…

73, Rick M0LEP

I also started creating a new account for each SOTA activation and soon quitted doing so for the reasons you have explained.
It’s not practical. Too much work for almost nothing.
Now I just confirm SOTA QSOs by logging into the database. That’s it and enough.

I have done 107 different summits this year; a separate account for each?
Someone has to be joking.
Someone has to be joking.
Indeed: See Display FAQ and have a laugh…

(…and Display FAQ has some more hilarity.)

As a retired programmer & database analyser I find this pathetic rather than funny.
rather than funny
Aye. I was, I’m afraid, being more than a little sarcastic above…
has been Stolen
…and who was the first person to raise the issue of eQSL? Take a look from the top…

Now you know why.

73, Rick M0LEP

I told Mike I had sent him on to confirm Our 2M FM simplex contact then the Jokers took off with that… I think in the future I will think twice about making any post at all on the SOTA Reflector as there are those out there that think everything others do is Not correct or its not done their way.
